The "80 Years of Freedom" designation marks 2025 as eight decades since the Allied liberation of the Pacific theater, a campaign in which the Solomon Islands were among the most heavily contested ground of the entire war. The Battle of Guadalcanal alone — fought across the archipelago's largest island from August 1942 to February 1943 — cost tens of thousands of lives across both sides and marked the first major Allied offensive against Japanese forces.
Collector issues of this size and plating specification are produced almost exclusively by the Pobjoy Mint or the Perth Mint under license, struck in limited numbers for the commemorative market rather than circulation.
