Australia's dodecagonal 50-cent coin has carried the lunar series through multiple monarchs without interruption, but 2026 marks the first Horse year to appear under Charles III's effigy. The Royal Australian Mint introduced his portrait — sculpted by King's appointed effigy designer Sacha Jafri — into circulation coinage beginning in 2023, replacing the long-running Machin-derived portrait of Elizabeth II used since 1985.
