Obverse description The post-1994 South African national coat of arms depicted in the centre of the field, featuring a secretary bird with outstretched wings above a shield charged with a Nguni bull, spear and knobkierie, and an elephant tusk on each side, supported by two human figures and flanked by sprouting wheat ears, with a ribbon bearing the motto 'ǀKE Eː ǀXARRA ǁKE' in the exergue. The date appears at the top of the field, and the legend 'AFRIKA BORWA' arcs along the left and right periphery respectively, with the engraver's initials 'ALS' visible in the lower field.
