| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a bold, unadorned portrait bust of Dr. Siaka Stevens, President of Sierra Leone, facing right, rendered in a restrained, modernist style by engraver Michael Rizzello. The effigy occupies the majority of the field, with no collar or drapery visible below the truncation. The national motto 'UNITY • FREEDOM • JUSTICE' arcs along the upper periphery, while the name 'DR. SIAKA STEVENS' curves along the lower periphery, separated by raised dots. The field is otherwise plain, lending a stark, monumental quality to the portrait. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Sierra Leone's early post-independence coinage was issued under considerable economic strain — the country's dependence on diamond and iron ore exports left government finances acutely vulnerable to commodity price swings throughout the 1970s. The Bank of Sierra Leone periodically struggled to fund routine reissues, which partly explains the extended twelve-year span this type covers without a redesign.
