| Opmerkingen |
Zalamea de la Serena is a small municipality in the Badajoz province of Extremadura — territory that changed hands violently in the early months of the Spanish Civil War. By 1937, the Republican zone was suffering acute shortages of fractional coinage, prompting hundreds of municipal councils across loyalist Spain to issue their own emergency paper. This note is one such locally-authorized emergency voucher, produced to fill the gap left by hoarded or melted metal.
The Gari catalogue reference places it firmly within the broader *billetes locales* phenomenon. Few were printed; fewer still survived postwar.
