Villanueva la Roja is a small municipality in the province of Salamanca, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally issued paper fractional currency during the Civil War years when small-denomination coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely. These ayuntamiento-issued céntimos notes were stopgap instruments, typically produced with whatever printing resources the town had to hand — often a local press, rubber stamp, or typewriter — and authorized by the alcalde rather than any banking authority.
The incomplete Gari Mon reference signals this piece has not been formally catalogued or confirmed in the standard corpus. Treat attribution with appropriate caution until a physical comparison with documented examples can be made.
