Opmerkingen

Villacañas is a small municipality in Toledo province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns, it resorted to printing its own fractional emergency currency during the Civil War years when Republican Spain faced an acute shortage of small-denomination coinage. The Consejo Municipal issues of this type were never intended to circulate beyond the town's immediate economy — the butcher, the baker, the local market — and most were redeemed, lost, or simply discarded once the war ended.

The Gari Monó reference places this squarely within the documented corpus of Spanish local war paper, though catalog coverage for Villacañas remains thin. Survival rates for these municipal issues vary enormously by town.
