Opmerkingen

Vilassar de Mar was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued its own emergency fractional currency during the summer of 1936, when the outbreak of the Civil War caused an almost immediate hoarding of metallic coin and left local commerce effectively paralyzed. These ajuntament-issued notes — often called "moneda de necessitat" — filled a gap the Republic's central banking apparatus simply could not address quickly enough at the local level.

The C.A.M. printer in Barcelona handled a substantial volume of these municipal issues across the region, which means production quality is relatively consistent, but individual designs and authorization texts vary considerably from town to town.
