Opmerkingen

Vilaplana is a small municipality in the Baix Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish townships during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper scrip when the Republican government's coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. These local emissions — collectively documented in the thousands across Spain — were sanctioned under a framework that effectively devolved currency production to the municipal level, producing a near-infinite variety of hyperlocal notes, many of which were printed in tiny quantities and never redeemed after the Nationalist victory rendered them worthless.

Turró's catalog remains the definitive reference for Catalan municipal issues, and the 2868 numbering places this squarely within the documented corpus, though survival rates for small-village scrip of this type are unpredictable — some issues are genuinely scarce simply because the issuing population was in the hundreds.
