| Opmerkingen |
Vilanova de Meià is a small municipality in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns during the Civil War, its ajuntament issued emergency paper money when metal coinage vanished from circulation almost entirely by 1937. These local emission notes — collectively catalogued in the tens of thousands of varieties — were a direct consequence of the Republican zone's acute coin shortage, itself worsened by hoarding and the disruption of normal treasury functions.
Turró's catalog remains the definitive reference for this class of emission, and #2846 is among the less-documented entries, with surviving population data essentially nonexistent. Small-town Catalan wartime issues of this period were printed in limited quantities and rarely survived the postwar decades intact.
