Opmerkingen

Vilanova de Meià is a small municipality in the Noguera comarca of Lleida, and like hundreds of Catalan and Aragonese towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. The Comitè Local or municipal council authorized these notes to keep local commerce functioning — national small change had been hoarded, melted, or simply vanished from circulation almost overnight.

Imprenta Unió Obrera in nearby Balaguer printed for several towns in the region during this period, which accounts for the family resemblance some collectors notice across different municipal issues from Noguera.
