Additional information

Vilabella is a small municipality in the Alt Camp comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Spanish towns it resorted to locally produced cardboard emergency currency during the Civil War after Republican authorities failed to distribute sufficient small change. These issues — collectively called *moneda de cartró* — were typically authorized and printed at the municipal level with minimal oversight, which is why catalog numbers vary so widely between references and why surviving examples often differ in color, print quality, or backing.

Turró and Garí Mon frequently disagree on subtype classifications for Vilabella issues, making cross-referencing essential before attributing a specific piece.
