Ulldemolins is a small village in the Priorat comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper money when the Republican government's coin supply collapsed after 1936. The hoarding of metal — copper and nickel alike — was immediate and near-universal once the war began, forcing local councils to paper over the gap themselves.
Imprenta Cuscó handled production for several of these municipal issues, which kept quality reasonably consistent across an otherwise chaotic patchwork of local emissions. Turró catalogues this series but surviving examples from Ulldemolins are notably scarce, consistent with the village's small population and limited original print run.
