Opmerkingen

One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republic's central monetary supply collapsed and local governments were left to print their own fractional currency. Tiana is a small coastal town in the Maresme comarca, northeast of Barcelona — its ajuntament almost certainly arranged local printing, as most comparable municipalities did.

The Turró catalog documents over 2,000 such issues, making individual attribution unglamorous but historically precise. Condition is everything with these: the paper quality was low to begin with, and heavy local circulation in a wartime economy left most examples worn.
