Teià is a small municipality in the Maresme comarca, just north of Barcelona, with a population that barely exceeded a thousand during the Civil War years. Like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish municipalities in 1937, the Ajuntament issued its own small-denomination emergency paper — the near-total disappearance of metallic coinage from circulation, hoarded or melted down, forced local governments to fill the gap with whatever printing resources were at hand.
Quintillà i Cardona handled a significant volume of these municipal emergency emissions out of Barcelona, producing notes for dozens of small towns across Catalonia. The sheer quantity of different issuers they serviced makes their work an interesting thread running through the entire municipalist coinage crisis of the Republic's final years.
