| Opmerkingen |
Tamarite de Litera is a small municipality in the Huesca province of Aragon, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it printed its own emergency fractional currency in 1937 when the Republic's coinage supply effectively collapsed. The peseta's silver and copper had been hoarded or melted, leaving local economies to improvise. These municipal emissions — vale, billete local, whatever the town called them — were theoretically redeemable but in practice circulated purely on local trust.
Seix i Barral, the Barcelona printer responsible for this note, was primarily a book publisher. The press handled a significant volume of Republican-era ephemera during the war years, including other municipal issues across Catalonia and Aragon.
