Opmerkingen

Sorbas is a small inland municipality in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, it issued its own fractional emergency currency when central coinage effectively disappeared from circulation. The Republican government's decree of late 1936 authorized local entities to print small-denomination paper to fill the void — what followed was an explosion of municipal vales, many printed by whatever local press was available. Imprenta Haro in nearby Vera handled production for several municipalities in the region, which occasionally makes attribution difficult when the issuer's name is faint or damaged.
