Sollana is a small agricultural municipality in Valencia's Ribera Baixa comarca, and like hundreds of similarly modest Spanish towns, its council issued emergency paper fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's metallic coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation in 1936–37. These local notes — known collectively as moneda local or billetes de necesidad — were typically produced in tiny print runs, often by local presses with no specialist equipment, and their survival rate reflects that: most circulated hard and were discarded once the emergency passed.
The Turró and Garí catalogues both list this emission, confirming it as a documented issue rather than an unattributed scrap, but recorded examples remain genuinely scarce.
