Segarra de Gaià is a small municipality in Tarragona province, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish Republican localities, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the withdrawal of metallic coinage from circulation. The Generalitat de Catalunya sanctioned this local issuance wave, but production quality and surviving quantities vary enormously from one municipality to the next. Segarra de Gaià's issues are among the less documented in the Turró catalogue, with population figures at the time suggesting extremely limited print runs.
