Comments

Santa Magdalena de Pulpis is a small municipality in Castellón province, and like hundreds of similar towns across Republican-held Spain, its municipal council issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the hoarding of metal coins — particularly copper and silver — created an acute small-change crisis across the country by mid-1937. These hyper-local emissions, collectively catalogued under the broader "guerra civil" municipal issues, were authorized under the decentralized wartime economy rather than by any single banking authority.

The thick card format is characteristic of improvised local production, likely printed on whatever stock was available rather than purpose-made banknote paper. At 43 × 35 mm, this is among the smallest pieces in the Republican municipal series.
