Santa Cruz de la Zarza is a small Castilian municipality southeast of Toledo, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council stepped in to print fractional emergency notes when hard currency vanished from circulation almost entirely after July 1936. The Imprenta Provincial de Ocaña — the provincial printing house in the nearby town of Ocaña — supplied several municipal councils in the Toledo region with these locally produced pieces, making printer attribution here unusually specific and confirmable.
The official stamp was the primary anti-counterfeiting measure, applied by hand after printing. Its presence, clarity, and ink color are the first things to check on any example.
