One of thousands of emergency municipal fractional notes issued across the Republican zone during the Spanish Civil War, when the hoarding of coins — driven by metal scarcity and public anxiety — caused a near-total collapse of small-denomination currency in everyday commerce. Roquetes, a small agricultural municipality in the Baix Ebre comarca, issued its own scrip to keep local trade functioning. The Imprenta Querol in nearby Tortosa supplied several of these municipal issues, which accounts for the visual similarities found across different town issues in the region.
The Turró catalogue remains the definitive reference for this material, and Turró#2205 is among the more obscure entries — Roquetes was a minor issuer with limited surviving quantities.
