Opmerkingen

Ribes de Freser is a small mountain town in the Ripollès comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency after the central government's coin supply collapsed in 1936. These local emissions — collectively catalogued under the broader *bitllets locals* phenomenon — were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's directives, which gave municipalities latitude to print their own small-denomination notes rather than wait for a centralized solution that never came.

Turró's cataloguing of this piece as #2112 places it well into the middle of a corpus that runs to several thousand distinct local issues. The Ajuntament de Ribes de Freser produced a limited run; surviving examples in any condition are uncommon, as most small municipal issues were redeemed or simply discarded after the Nationalist takeover of Catalonia in early 1939.
