Reus was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republican government's metal coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply unavailable. The Consell Municipal stepped in as a matter of practical necessity, and local printer Ferrando produced the series without the infrastructure or security printing traditions of a national institution.
Turró catalogs these municipal Catalan emissions extensively; #2080 places this note within a well-documented but historically dense series where survival rates vary sharply between denominations.
