Pulpí is a small municipality in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish towns during the Civil War, its local council was forced to improvise fractional currency after coin hoarding stripped the local economy of usable small change. This 50 céntimos piece is among the more obscure examples of that improvisation — Gari Mon lists it, but surviving specimens are rarely traded.
Printing was handled by Tipografía de Alarcón in nearby Águilas, a commercial print shop pressed into monetary service. The result was functional rather than sophisticated.
