Prades is a small hill town in the Conca de Barberà, and like dozens of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, its council was forced to print its own fractional currency after the Republican government's inability to maintain adequate coin circulation left small transactions almost impossible. The Sugrañes press in Tarragona handled a significant number of these local emergency issues for the region, which gives this note a certain typographical consistency with its neighbors despite the purely local authority behind it.
Turró catalogues this as #1980 — deep in a list that runs to well over two thousand municipal issues from Catalonia alone in 1936–38.
