Pobla de Mafumet is a village of a few hundred inhabitants a handful of kilometers northwest of Tarragona. Like dozens of Catalan municipalities during the Civil War, the local council issued small-denomination paper when coin shortages became acute after 1936 — the Republican government's inability to maintain a functioning fractional coinage pushed the problem down to the smallest administrative units imaginable. Tipografía A. Ventura in Tarragona handled several of these local emergency emissions across the province, producing functional if modest work under wartime constraints.
The Turró catalogue documents this as a single emission with no known varieties.
