Plana de Riucorb is a small municipality in the Urgell comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan and Spanish Republican towns, it resorted to locally printed paper scrip in 1937 when the Republic's coin supply collapsed under wartime hoarding and metal requisitioning. The Imprenta Crònica Targarina in nearby Tàrrega served as a regional printer for several of these municipal issues — a newspaper press turned emergency mint.
Turró's catalog documents well over two thousand of these local emergency emissions. The relative obscurity of this specific municipality makes surviving examples genuinely scarce.
