Plana de Riucorb is a small municipality in the comarca of Urgell, Catalonia, and like hundreds of other Catalan and Spanish localities, it issued its own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's small-change crisis of 1936–37 drained coins from circulation almost entirely. These local issues — collectively known as "moneda local" or "guerra civil" notes — were authorised under a decree that briefly allowed municipal councils to print their own low-denomination paper. The practical result was an extraordinary proliferation of hyper-local scrip, most printed in tiny quantities by whatever press happened to be nearby.

Imprenta A. Figueres in Tàrrega handled several municipal commissions from surrounding villages in Urgell, which gives this note a regional coherence that many one-off issues lack. Survival rates for these small rural emissions are unpredictable — low print runs and wartime disruption mean some are genuinely rare, while others turned up in bulk from municipal archives decades later.
