Passanant is a tiny municipality in the Conca de Barberà comarca of Tarragona, and by 1937 its population was well under a thousand. Like hundreds of other Catalan villages during the Civil War, the local ajuntament issued its own fractional paper money to address the near-total disappearance of metallic coin from circulation — a crisis driven by hoarding, requisitioning, and the Republican government's inability to supply small change to the interior.

Turró catalogues only a single type for Passanant, which suggests the issue was extremely limited in scope. Notes from municipalities this small were often printed by local presses with whatever materials were available, and survival rates are correspondingly low.
