Osor is a small municipality in the Selva comarca of Girona, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency paper money when the collapse of normal banking left communities without small change. These local notes — collectively called "moneda de necessitat" — were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's decree of late 1936, which gave municipalities the legal cover to print their own fractional currency.

Imprenta Cabruja was a Girona print shop responsible for a number of these municipal issues across the province, which means the physical production quality is broadly consistent even where the issuing towns differed wildly in size and sophistication.
