Montcada i Reixac was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued their own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War, when Republican-zone coin shortages became acute after 1936. Grafos, by 1937, had been collectivized by its workers under the CNT-FAI anarcho-syndicalist framework — one of the more unusual printing arrangements in modern European monetary history. The press continued to fulfill municipal and institutional contracts under collective management throughout the war.

Turró catalogues this emission at #1558, placing it within a dense cluster of Barcelona-area local issues from the same period. Montcada's notes are not among the rarer survivors of this series.
