Opmerkingen

Moneva is a village in Aragón with a population that barely reached three figures even before the Civil War. That a municipal council this small issued its own fractional currency in 1937 is less surprising than it sounds — the collapse of small-denomination coinage across Republican Spain forced hundreds of local bodies to print emergency scrip just to keep markets functioning. These are collectively known as billetes locales or guerra civil municipales, and the Gari catalogue documents well over a thousand distinct issues.

Seix i Barral, better known as a Barcelona literary publisher, took on emergency printing contracts during the war years. The official stamp is the only authentication device — a vulnerability common across the entire category.
