Minaya is a small municipality in Albacete province, Castilla-La Mancha. During the Spanish Civil War, the collapse of small-denomination coinage across Republican-held territory forced hundreds of local councils to issue their own emergency paper — these municipally-issued notes are known collectively as "billetes de necesidad." The Consejo Municipal de Minaya produced this 50 céntimos piece under that same desperate improvisation, with an official stamp serving as the primary anti-counterfeiting measure in a town where sophisticated security printing was simply not available.
Gari Mon catalogues two variants, A and B, likely distinguished by stamp color or ink lot rather than any structural redesign.
