Opmerkingen

Llorenç d'Hortons is a small municipality in the Alt Penedès comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Spanish Civil War, it issued its own fractional currency when Republican-zone coinage all but vanished from circulation after 1936. The Generalitat de Catalunya had authorized local councils to print emergency notes (moneda de necessitat) to keep small transactions moving, which is what produced this piece — printed locally by Imprenta Ribas in nearby Vilafranca del Penedès, a press that supplied several Alt Penedès municipalities with similar issues.

Turró catalogs these Civil War municipal notes with obsessive precision precisely because their survival rates vary so wildly between townships. Llorenç d'Hortons had a population of only a few hundred, meaning total print runs for issues like this one were genuinely small.
