Laspaúles is a tiny municipality in the Ribagorza comarca of Huesca, Aragon — and like dozens of similarly obscure Spanish townships, it was forced into the business of money printing by the catastrophic coin shortage that followed the July 1936 military uprising. The Republican government's inability to maintain metallic circulation in small denominations pushed municipal councils across Catalonia and Aragon to issue their own emergency paper, regardless of whether they had any printing infrastructure whatsoever.

The Gari catalogue documents this type as 812-A, suggesting at least one variant exists. For a village of this size, even a single surviving example is genuinely uncommon.
