Lagata is a village in Zaragoza province with a population that barely reached a few hundred in the 1930s. During the anarchist-influenced collectivization of Aragon in 1937, hundreds of these micro-communities issued their own emergency scrip — válvulas de emergencia for local exchange when Republican pesetas dried up and the nationalist blockade made commerce nearly impossible. Lagata's colectividad was among the smallest issuers in the entire Aragon network.

Production was almost certainly local and improvised. The Gari Mon catalogue documents this as the only denomination confirmed for Lagata.
