La Manresana is a tiny municipality in the comarca of Anoia, Catalonia — population in the hundreds — and its decision to issue emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War places it among the smallest issuing authorities in what was already one of the most atomized monetary episodes in modern European history.
