Opmerkingen

La Jana is a small municipality in the Baix Maestrat comarca of Castellón, and like hundreds of similarly sized Spanish towns during the Civil War, its municipal council issued emergency fractional currency in 1937 after Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply never replaced. These municipally issued notes, broadly catalogued under the wartime "billetes locales" phenomenon, were legal only within the issuing municipality's own commerce.

At roughly the size of a large postage stamp, this note was almost certainly produced on whatever printing resources the council had at hand. Very few examples survive undamaged.
