Jumilla, a wine-producing municipality in Murcia, was one of hundreds of Spanish towns that issued emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's coinage disappeared from circulation in 1936. The original 50 céntimos note was a local stopgap, authorized and circulated under wartime necessity.
