Beschrijving keerzijde A single upright ear of wheat or grain dominates the center of the field, rendered in fine botanical detail with individual seeds and lateral leaves clearly articulated. The denomination numeral 50 appears to the left of the stalk and the abbreviation CTS to the right, both in large, bold incuse lettering that spans nearly the full width of the coin. The composition is simple and graphic, with no surrounding legend, leaving a broad, unadorned field that emphasizes the central motif and denomination.

Aanvullende informatie

This denomination had been dormant in Spanish coinage for decades before its 1976 revival, and its reintroduction coincided with the political turbulence of the Transition — Franco had died in November 1975, and the mint was already retooling both its machinery and its iconography. The aluminium alloy chosen was a deliberate low-cost solution for a face value so negligible that production economics barely justified the issue at all.

Within a few years, inflation had rendered the 50 céntimos functionally worthless in daily commerce.
