| Obverse description | Right-facing laureate effigy of Queen Isabella II, her hair elaborately dressed in braided coils gathered at the nape and secured with a ribbon bow, adorned with a laurel wreath. The truncation bears the engraver's initials L.M. The circular legend reads ISABEL 2ª POR LA G. DE DIOS Y LA CONST., divided by two pellets, with the date 1868 displayed in the lower exergue between two pellets. The portrait is rendered in fine neoclassical style with a toothed border surrounding the entire design. |

Flanking the shield on either side are the Pillars of Hercules, each wrapped with a ribbon scroll inscribed PLUS (left) and ULTRA (right). The upper legend REINA DE LAS ESPANAS arcs around the field, while the denomination 50 CS. DE PESO appears in the lower segment between two six-pointed stars.
