Horts del Llobregat — now known as L'Hospitalet de Llobregat — was one of hundreds of Catalan municipalities that issued their own emergency fractional currency during the Civil War after the Republic's coin supply collapsed in 1936. The Generalitat de Catalunya formally authorized these local emissions, but production quality and oversight varied enormously from one ajuntament to the next. Turró catalogues this issue as #1241, placing it within the dense cluster of Barcelona-province municipals from that year.
Survival rates for these wartime locals are uneven — many were rendered worthless before the war ended and simply discarded.
