One of hundreds of small-denomination emergency notes issued by Catalan municipalities during the Spanish Civil War, when the Republican government's inability to supply adequate fractional coinage left local councils scrambling to fill the gap themselves. Girona's municipal issues of 1937 fall squarely within that wave — locally authorized, locally printed, and intended for purely local circulation.
