| Opmerkingen |
Garriguella is a small municipality in the Alt Empordà comarca of Catalonia, and this 50 céntimos note is one of the thousands of local emergency issues produced during the Spanish Civil War after the Republic's coinage supply collapsed in 1936–37. Town councils — ajuntaments — were left to print their own fractional currency to keep local commerce moving, resulting in an extraordinary proliferation of hyper-local paper.
Imprenta Trayter in Figueres handled a significant number of these Alt Empordà municipal issues, which gives the series a certain regional coherence despite the chaotic circumstances of production.
