Gálvez is a small municipality in Toledo province, and this 50 céntimos note is a product of the Spanish Civil War's brutal fragmentation of the money supply. When the Republican government's centralized currency system collapsed at the local level after July 1936, thousands of ayuntamientos across the Republican zone issued their own emergency paper — cartones, vales, and billetes de necesidad — to keep commerce moving. The Municipal Council of Gálvez was one among hundreds of such issuers in Castilla-La Mancha alone.

The Garicoinstitut reference (Gari Mon#692-B) suggests at least two known varieties for this denomination from this issuer — the "B" subtype typically indicates a printing or signature variant rather than a wholly different design run.
