Folgueroles is a small municipality in Osona, Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly modest towns it resorted to locally printed emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after metallic coin effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipal councils to issue their own small-denomination notes (vales) to keep local commerce functioning, which is why pieces like this exist at all — not from any banking infrastructure, but from sheer necessity.
Turró catalogues this issue under #1031, placing it within the broader Catalan municipal emission series. At the dimensions listed, this is about as small as Civil War-era Spanish local paper gets.
