50 Céntimos Fígols de Segre

Fígols de Segre is a village so small that its wartime emergency scrip is more an artifact of administrative stubbornness than any genuine monetary need. During the Spanish Civil War, the Generalitat de Catalunya authorized municipalities to issue their own low-denomination paper — the *moneda de necessitat* — to address the acute shortage of small coinage that swept Republican-held territory from mid-1936 onward. Litografia Lafont i Miralles, a Barcelona commercial printer, produced notes for dozens of these Catalan municipalities, which accounts for the typographic consistency across an otherwise chaotic period.

Turró catalogs this as #1004, placing it within a well-documented but still genuinely scarce series — surviving examples from the smallest issuing municipalities are underrepresented in collections precisely because so few were printed to begin with.
