Obverse description The national coat of arms of São Tomé and Príncipe is displayed prominently in the center of the field, depicting a shield charged with a palm tree, supported by a African grey parrot on the dexter side and a falcon on the sinister side. Above the shield, a five-pointed star surmounts the composition. Two ribbon banners flank the shield, bearing the country name and national motto in raised Latin lettering. The circular legend around the periphery reads 'REPÚBLICA DEMOCRÁTICA DE S. TOMÉ E PRÍNCIPE' with the date '1977' completing the inscription.
