Ellar is a tiny municipality in the comarca of Pallars Sobirà, Lleida. During the Spanish Civil War, dozens of Catalan villages and agricultural committees issued their own fractional emergency currency when Republican-zone coinage effectively vanished from circulation in 1936–37. The Comité Agrícola de Ellar's 50 céntimos falls squarely into that phenomenon — a hyperlocal response to a nationwide metallic coin shortage, valid only within the immediate community that issued it.

The Gari Moncusi catalogue reference is incomplete, suggesting the piece remains poorly documented or was recorded without a confirmed surviving specimen at the time of compilation.
